On March 24, the startup creation platform "Tech Startup HOKURIKU" (TeSH), which is led by Kanazawa University and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) and involves 12 universities and 3 technical colleges in the Hokuriku region, held the "Startup Ecosystem Co-Creation Program National Platform Community Event - Towards the creation of startups from Tech Startup HOKURIKU (TeSH) in the Hokuriku region" at TIB (Tokyo Innovation Base) in Tokyo.
The purpose of this event was to promote community building between universities and technical colleges in the Hokuriku region and business promotion organizations and national platforms in the Tokyo metropolitan area, as well as to build a network with business companies and industrial support organizations. On the day, approximately 180 people, including many people from the Tokyo metropolitan area and the three Hokuriku prefectures, participated in the event.
The event began with an address by Kanazawa University President Takashi Wada, followed by guest speeches by Keiichi Yoshimura, Director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Startup and International Financial City Strategy Office, and Atsuko Nishigaki, Director General for Policy Coordination at the Minister's Secretariat of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (in charge of the Economic and Industrial Bureau) and Director General for Policy Coordination at the Commissioner's Secretariat of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency (in charge of DX and EBPM).
This was followed by a keynote speech by Professor Katsuya Hasegawa, Executive Director of the Startup Promotion Department of the University of Tokyo's Industrial and Academic Corporate Relations Headquarters, and a panel discussion on the theme of "Supporting the creation of startups in rural areas: the challenges and future of universities and colleges of technology."
In the second half of the event, there were pitches by startups recommended by the threeHokuriku prefectures and researchers selected for theTeSH GAP Fund Program Step 2, followed by a report on TeSHactivities for fiscal year 2024. In addition, Kiichi Kubota, chairman of the Governing Board of the University-Based New Industry Creation Fund and president and CEO of KSP Inc., gave a speech titled JST University-Based New Industry Creation Fund: Midway through". Finally, President of the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology Minoru Terano gave a closing address, bringing the event to a successful close.
Participants highly appreciated the valuable lectures and pitches and the opportunity to exchange views with researchers and supporters in Hokuriku region through networking.
TeSH will continue to support the development of the startup ecosystem in the Hokuriku region and contribute to revitalizing the startup ecosystem in the Hokuriku region and across the country.
