On December 28, students from Kanazawa University Volunteer Support Station, leaded by lecturer Kaisei Harada from Institute of Human and Social Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Management, together with employees of Kanazawa Energy Co., Ltd., participated as volunteers in the 2024 Wajima Mochitsuki Festival, hosted by Wajima reconstruction support group Ligare, and helped with the operation of the event.
In addition to preparing the equipment the day before, they were also involved in cleaning the tools to be used and setting up the venue, and after the start of the mochi-pounding event, they pounded the mochi (rice cakes) with the general participants, and worked with local supporters to distribute mochi. On the day, many local citizens came to enjoy the freshly pounded mochi.
After the Mochitsuki event, they also helped remove rubble and distribute relief supplies at Juzo Shrine in Wajima City.
